Viesturs Meijers is a Latvian chess Grandmaster, recognized as the nation's second player to achieve this title. Despite having a non-chess-related profession as a civil engineer, Meijers has achieved significant success and acclaim in the chess world.

Born on May 28, 1958, in Ivande, Meijers first took up chess in his early childhood. He became internationally known in 1989 when he won the Latvian Chess Championship. During the 1990s, he consistently performed well in international competitions and was awarded the Grandmaster title in 1993, following his victory in the round-robin tournament in Hungary.

Meijers has represented Latvia in the Chess Olympiad multiple times between 1992 and 2010. Additionally, he participated in the European Team Chess Championships from 1992 to 2005. Notably, he played in the European Club Cup in 2002–03 and 2005-06.

In 1994, Meijers scored a significant victory by winning the Ansbach Open in Germany. He also secured various top-three finishes in multiple open tournaments held in Spain, Denmark, and Sweden.
