Hrant Melkumyan is an Armenian chess player known for holding the title of Grandmaster since 2008. He was born on April 30, 1989 in Yerevan, Armenia. He bagged the World Youth Chess Championship in the Under 18 category in 2006.
In 2008, Melkumyan played for the Armenian national team in the 1st World Mind Sports Games, where the team clinched a bronze. He also emerged as the Armenian champion in 2009. He repeated the feat in 2011, and that same year, he was part of the Armenian team that won gold in the World Team Chess Championship.
At the 40th Chess Olympiad in 2012, he scooped a team gold and individual silver playing for Armenia. In 2014, he won the silver medal at the European Individual Chess Championship. Later in 2018, he finished runner-up in the Aeroflot Open. Melkumyan has also played in several Chess World Cup tournaments.
