Artashes Minasian is an Armenian chess Grandmaster who was born on December 21, 1967. His notable achievements include winning the Armenian Chess Championship in 1990, 1992, 1995, and 1996. He also won the USSR Junior Chess Championship in 1981.
Internationally, Minasian has performed well for Armenia's national team. He took part in the Chess Olympiads of 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, and 2002 and won individual medals in 1994 (a silver) and 1998 (a bronze) as well as the national team gold in 2002. He was also part of the Armenian team in the World Team Chess Championship of 2001 that won the silver medal.
Minasian uses a variety of openings as a chess player, having used the Sicilian Defence or French Defence as black, and the Queen's Gambit or King's Indian Attack as white.
