Leon Mons is a German chess player who holds the title of Grandmaster (GM), the highest title a chess player can attain. He was born on October 30, 1995, in Leer, East Frisia, Germany and his parents introduced him to chess when he was six years old. In 2013, he moved to Hamburg, where he studied physics at the University of Hamburg until 2019.
Mons competes in multiple national and international chess tournaments. He won several North German championships, achieved second place in the U10 Open German Championships in 2005, and reached rank one in the international youth ranking lists both in the U10 and U14.
Mons also played in league play for the chess club Werder Bremen, where he has been part of the team since 2010. He became a fixed member of the first team in the Chess Bundesliga from the season 2012/13 onwards. He has also represented Germany at the European U18 Team Championship in 2012.
