Sergei Movsesian is a Slovak-Armenian chess grandmaster. He was born on November 3, 1978, in Tbilisi, Georgia. His chess career includes several achievements such as winning the Armenian Chess Championship in 1995 and 1996, the Czech Open in 2006, Aeroflot Open in 2007, and Ruy Lopez Chess Festival in 2008. Movsesian was also a part of the gold-medal-winning Armenian team at the 2008 and 2012 Olympiads.


Movsesian learned to play chess at a young age and quickly progressed. At only 14-years-old, he became the Georgian U16 Champion in 1992 and two years later, earned the Grandmaster title. In addition to the aforementioned championship wins, he also won the Slovak Chess Championship in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2012. He played for Armenia in five Chess Olympiads before transferring to Slovakia in 2006 where he continued to compete.
