Andrei Murariu is a Romanian chess player and international Grandmaster. He was born on November 24, 1951 in Bucharest, Romania. Murariu's most significant achievement was becoming the European Senior Chess Champion in 2011, an event that took place in Courmayeur, Italy.
He also represented Romania in numerous International Chess Olympiads and Team Chess Championships. His participation in the 17th Chess Olympiad in 1966 as the youngest player was notable. Furthermore, Murariu played for the national team in two European Team Chess Championships, in 1983 and 1989, where the team won the silver medal. He also participated in the 18th World Student Team Chess Championship in 1970 where the Romanian team won the bronze medal. He played in the Chess Mitropa Cup for Romania in 1978 and 1980, and at the Balkaniad scoring impressive results.
Murariu participated in several chess tournaments throughout his career, including the Bucharest City Chess Championship, where he scored his best results in 1975 and 1976, finishing in first place both times. He also played in the Romanian Chess Championship several times.
