Yakov Yakovlevich Nesterov is a Russian Grandmaster (GM) of correspondence chess and International Master (IM) of chess. .
Born on 7th August 1952, Nesterov got bestowed with the title of International Master (IM) in 1982. In 1985, he earned the Grandmaster (GM) title in correspondence chess, making him one of the few players globally to have this distinct achievement. He was awarded the title of the International Correspondence Chess Federation (ICCF) senior international master (SIM) in 2011.
He has participated in various national and international tournaments and found success. In 1989, he became the champion of the USSR in correspondence chess. He was a finalist in the 16th championship (2002–2007) and 17th championship (2004–2010) of the ICCF World Championship.
Nesterov is also recognized for his contributions as a team player. He was part of the national team that won the ICCF’s 9th Correspondence Chess Olympiad in 2004.
In addition to his chess career, Nesterov was a Doctor of Economic Sciences and worked as a professor. He passed away on 18th June 2015.
