Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu is a Romanian and German chess Grandmaster. He was born on August 1, 1976, in Brasov, Romania. Nisipeanu’s most notable win was at the European Individual Chess Championship in 2005. He opted to play for the German Chess Federation in 2014.
Nisipeanu successfully finished as a runner up in the 1999 Romanian Chess Championship and triumphed in both the Paris Championship and the Bucharest Championship in 1999. In 2005, Nisipeanu won the European Individual Chess Championship, which resulted in his qualification for the FIDE World Chess Championship later that year. After defeating several prominent player, he finished tied for 5th–6th place eventually.
Nisipeanu was a part of the Romanian team in seven Chess Olympiads, from 1996 to 2008, where he achieved a team bronze medal in 1998 and silver in 2004. Nisipeanu changed his federation to Germany in 2014 and landed 4th place in the 2017 European Individual Chess Championship.
