Jesús Nogueiras Santiago is a renowned chess Grandmaster from Cuba. He was born on July 17, 1959. He became an International Grandmaster in 1983 after winning the Cuban Championship, which he won a total of five times. In 1976, as a teenager, he represented his country at the Youth Chess Olympiad, earning a gold medal for the team and individual silver. Nogueiras participated in several World Chess Championships, reaching his personal best in 1990 with a score of 4.5 points out of 9. He was also a five-time Chess Olympiad participant for the national team and represented Cuba at the World Chess Team Championship. He won the Najdorf Memorial Tournament in 1994. Nogueiras has played many matches with renowned chess players such as Kasparov, Panno, and Timman. In the 2005 Cuban Championship, he was disqualified over allegations regarding the use of computer assistance, which he denied. Despite this controversy, Nogueiras is respected in the field of chess.
