Andrés Carlos Obregón is an Argentine chess Grandmaster. He was born on February 5, 1959, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He earned the title of International Master (IM) in 1980, and subsequently received the title of Grandmaster (GM) in 1985, making him the first Argentine chess player born in the 1950s to have achieved a GM title.
Obregón's outstanding results in chess tournaments include winning the Chess Championship of Buenos Aires, Argentina, multiple times throughout his career. He also represented Argentina at numerous Chess Olympiads, including in 1984, 1986, 1988, and 1990.
Beyond his playing career, Obregón has been influential in expanding chess education, particularly amongst young people. For several years, he has served as a trainer in a chess school. He is also known for promoting chess in school curricula across his home country.
