Juan Carlos Obregón Rivero is a Cuban chess grandmaster, who won the Cuban national championship in 2002 and 2003. He was also awarded the title of International Master in 1999 and became a Grandmaster in 2007.


Born on January 29, 1977 in Santiago de Cuba, Obregón Rivero has achieved considerable success in the international chess community. Throughout his career, he has participated in numerous tournaments and has garnered several victories.


Noted for his aggressive and imaginative style of play, Obregón Rivero is a prominent figure in the global chess community. Despite his numerous achievements, Obregón Rivero remains relatively unknown outside of the chess world due to the low profile he maintains outside of competitions.


His notable performances include the 42nd Chess Olympiad in Baku, where he delivered an impressive performance and helped his Cuban team to an 18th place finish. He also showed remarkable performance in the Capablanca Memorial, a renowned international tournament held annually in Cuba, where he has placed high over the years.



Obregón Rivero continues to remain active within the chess community, participating in various tournaments and contributing to the development of the game in his home country.
