Alexander Obukhov (born April 24, 1980) is a German-Russian chess Grandmaster. He became a chess candidate Master at the age of 11. In 1995, at 15 years old, he won the boy's section of the World Youth Chess Championship and became an International Master (IM). Obukhov became a Grandmaster in 2004 and moved to Germany in the same year.
He has won many prestigious tournaments, such as the Oberwart Open in Austria (2001 and 2002), the Munich Championship in Germany (2007), and the Bremen Championship (2008).
In the Chess Olympiad, he has represented both Russia and Germany. From 1996 to 2002, he was a part of the Russian team, while from 2008, he started representing Germany. Apart from individual chess events, he has been a successful player in team events. Notably, in 2002, playing for team Russia, he won a team silver at the Chess Olympiad.
