Mykhaylo Oleksiyenko is a Ukrainian chess player who holds the title of Grandmaster (GM), the highest title a chess player can attain. Born on June 30, 1987 in Lvov, he learned to play chess at the age of six and was granted the title of Grandmaster in 2005 at the age of 18.


Oleksiyenko won the "Sirius" tournament in Kiselevsk in 2004. In the same year, he shared 1st - 7th places in the semi-final of the Ukrainian Championship in Poltava and repeated this feat in the semi-final in Alushta.


In 2008, he won shared 1st - 6th places in the Zalakaros Open in Zalakaros, Hungary. In 2009, he achieved major success by winning the bronze medal in the European Chess Championship.


Among his other achievements, Oleksiyenko represented Ukraine in the European Team Chess Championship in Novi Sad, Serbia, in 2009, where Ukraine took the third place. In 2011, he won the Chigorin Memorial in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and the Reykjavik Open in Reykjavik, Iceland in 2012.



As a member of the Ukrainian team in the World University Chess Championships, he won the team gold in 2008 and 2010 and the individual gold in 2010. In 2013, he moved to Russia and played in the Chess Premier League.


His playing style is characterized by high combativity, with a combination of a subtle positional understanding and sharp tactical vision.
