Josep Oms Pallise is a chess Grandmaster from Catalonia, Spain. Born on 1 August 1960 in Barcelona, he started playing chess at a young age. Oms won his first major tournament, the Catalan Junior Championship, at 15. He then went on to win the Catalan Chess Championship in 1979, 1980 and 1983.
In 1984, Oms achieved the rank of International Master, and in 1989, he was awarded the Grandmaster title by the International Chess Federation. He represented Spain in several international chess competitions, including the Chess Olympiads in 1990, where he earned an individual silver medal, and again in 1992, 1994, and 1996 where his team came in fifth.
Throughout his career, he has won or shared first place in various tournaments across the globe such as in San Sebastian, Andorra, and Terrassa, and has also participated in the European Team Chess Championship.
Apart from being a chess player, Oms is also a respected trainer and a notable author, having written for chess magazines and co-authored books. In 2014, he was named Sports Councilor in the Sitges city council, in Catalonia region of Spain.
