Grigoriy Alexandrovich Oparin is a Russian chess Grandmaster, born on July 1, 1997. His title was ratified by FIDE in October 2013. He won several youth tournaments when he was young, including the World Youth Chess Championship in the Under 16 category in 2012.
In 2016, Oparin shared first place with Dmitry Kokarev and Alexandr Predke in the Russian Higher League, qualifying for the Superfinal of the Russian Chess Championship. He achieved further success in 2017 by winning the Russian University championship. In the European club cup 2017 he scored 4½/7 helping his team win silver medal. Also in 2017, Oparin and Chithambaram Aravindh were dubbed "young and ambitious" when they faced off in the Gibraltar Chess Festival.
After his 2016 successes, in 2018 he tied for 2nd-8th places in the 2018 Gibraltar Masters tournament. Oparin ended up in 26th place at the World Rapid Chess Championship in 2018 after leading for the beginning of the championship.
