Michael Oratovsky is a Ukrainian-Israeli chess Grandmaster. He was born in 1964 in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine and earned his Grandmaster title in 1991. Oratovsky is known for his achievements in various chess tournaments. He has won several Israeli Chess Championships, finished second in the 1996 Jerusalem Open, and came in third in said tournament in 2003. Furthermore, he participated in the FIDE World Chess Championship 2004, where he was eliminated in the first round.
Oratovsky has made significant contributions to the development of chess in Israel, especially in training the younger generation of players. He has also been a chess coach for the national teams of Israel and Turkey.
Despite being based in Israel, he often participates in tournaments in Ukraine. In the Chess Olympiads, Oratovsky has represented both Ukraine and Israel. He was a member of the Israeli team that won the silver medal in the 2010 Chess Olympiad. In the European Team Chess Championships, he represented Ukraine in 1993 and Israel in the years 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2007.
