Orlov has had multiple successes throughout his chess career. In 2010, he won the European Individual School Chess Championship U17 in Thessaloniki, Greece. Later, in 2016, he won the Voronezh Master Open in Voronezh, Russia. His participation in the HSE (High School Economics University) Cup held in Moscow in March 2019 earned him the tournament's top spot.
Most notably, Orlov competed in the Russian Chess Championship Superfinal in 2019, which is a tournament that only the top players in Russia can qualify for. In this competition, he played against some of the best chess players in the world, though he did not make it to the top 3.
