Berge Østenstad is a prominent Norwegian chess player who holds the prestigious title of Grandmaster. He was born on May 13, 1964, in Oslo, Norway. Besides being a professional chess player, he is also a Catholic deacon.
He achieved the International Master title in 1991 and then went on to secure the Grandmaster title in 1998. Østenstad has won the Norwegian Chess Championship seven times, making him one of the most successful players in Norwegian chess history. In the years 1993, 1995, 1996, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2007, he was declared the champion.
In the Chess Olympiad, Østenstad has represented Norway nine times from 1990 to 2006. He has also represented Norway in 3 team Chess European Championships and has actively participated in several World and European Junior Championships. He is known for his aggressive play and creative strategies.
