Roman Anatolyevich Ovetchkin is a Russian chess grandmaster, born in Moscow on November 21, 1987. He won his first notable chess title, U18 Russian Champion, in 2005. Two years later, Ovetchkin won the U20 Russian Championship and was awarded the prestigious title of Chess Grandmaster (GM) by the World Chess Federation in 2007.
In addition to his competitive achievements, he has established his coaching credentials, having trained several prominent Russian chess players, most notably Ian Nepomniachtchi, a top-tier global chess player. Ovetchkin has also been involved in the development and execution of a number of chess tournaments and events, particularly in the Russian chess community.
