Magesh Chandran Panchanathan is an Indian chess player and trainer who holds the title of Grandmaster (GM), the highest title offered by the World Chess Federation or FIDE. Born on 10th August 1983, his chess career has seen him achieve the FIDE Master title in 2002, The International Master title in 2003, and the Grandmaster title in 2006. In June 2020, Magesh was ranked 17th in India and 445th in the world.


Magesh won the 2005 World Open, a major international chess tournament, in Philadelphia. Furthermore, he won the 2016 Cannes Open and finished third in the 2016 Philadelphia Open. In 2019, Magesh emerged as the champion at the 95th Hastings International Chess Congress in England.



He has a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering from the B.M.S. College of Engineering in Bangalore, India. In addition, Magesh has a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Dallas, USA. He earned a scholarship there for his performance in chess. Dependencies
