Orelvis Pérez Mitjans is a Spanish chess Grandmaster. His original nationality is Cuban, and he was born on February 28, 1976. He earned his International Master (IM) title in 1997 and his Grandmaster (GM) title in 2002.
As a coach, Mitjans has been equally successful. He has coached many top players, most notably the 2018 World Under-8 Champion, Bharath Subramaniyam H, and the 2017 Spanish U8 Champion, M Pranesh.
Mitjans is currently based in Barcelona, Spain.
His contributions to the game of chess have been substantial. Not only has he achieved success as an active competitor, but he has also helped to shape the skills of younger generations of chess players. Despite living and playing in Spain, Perez Mitjans' achievements also point to the high caliber of chess talent that comes out of Cuba.
