Arshak B. Petrosian is a renowned Armenian International Grandmaster of chess. He was born on September 16, 1953 in Tbilisi, Georgia. Petrosian won the Armenian Chess Championship multiple times — in 1971, 1975, and 1983. He also achieved impressive scores in various international competitions, such as the 1983 and 1986 Badenweiler Opens in West Germany, and in Kirovakan in 1989. He received the International Master title in 1976 and became an International Grandmaster in 1982.


Grandmaster Petrosian played for Armenia in seven Chess Olympiads between 1978 and 1996 with excellent results reaching two team silvers and one team bronze, along with one individual gold and one individual bronze medal.


Since 1982, he has been married to fellow Grandmaster Elina Danielian and together, they have two children. Presently, he is a chess teacher, grooming some of Armenia's most successful young players, including Gabriel Sargissian and Varuzhan Akobian.
