József Pintér is a Hungarian chess Grandmaster and chess coach. He was born on November 9, 1953, in Budapest, Hungary. Although he learned to play chess at age 7, it was at the age of 18 that he began to take it seriously.
In 1974, he won the European Junior Chess Championship. In 1978, he earned the Grandmaster title. He was a member of the Hungarian team that won the silver medal in the World Team Chess Championship in 1989 and also in the Chess Olympiads in 1978, 1980, and 1986.
József has a university degree and he is also coaching, currently is the captain of the national women team. He has been on the top 100 players in the world for 10 years between 1978 and 1990.
