Hagen Poetsch is a German chess Grandmaster. Born on 17 December 1990, in Calw, Germany, Poetsch was awarded the title of International Master in 2010 and Grandmaster in 2014 by Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE), the international chess federation.


In national competitions, Poetsch won the German Youth Chess Championship in 2008 and again in 2010. However, his breakthrough came in 2007 when he was just 16-years-old competing in the Over 20 German Championship, where he made it into the final.


Internationally, Poetsch has represented Germany in various competitions. He was part of the German team that won the World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad in 2006 in Turkey. He also participated in the Chess Olympiad in Baku in 2016 and the European Team Chess Championship in 2017.


In club competitions, Poetsch has played for several chess clubs. In the German Chess Bundesliga, he first played for SC Eppingen and later for SK Schwaebisch Hall. He has also competed on behalf of Liechtenstein's chess club, the Schachgesellschaft Ruggell, in the Swiss Nationalliga A.


Poetsch is also an author, writing several books on chess. In 2014 he published his first book followed by several others, offering insights on the techniques, strategies and the tactical understanding of chess. He also works as a trainer at the national level and for his home club in the youth section.
