Petar Popović is a chess player from Belgrade, Serbia. He was born on November 1, 1941. He was bestowed the title of an International Master in 1968 and became a Grandmaster in 1981. Popović was a national champion in the Yugoslav Chess Championship in 1970 shared with Dragoljub Čirić. From 1964 to 1995, he actively represented his country, Yugoslavia in Chess Olympiads, winning two team silver medals in 1966 and 1980. In addition, he also won individual silver in 1970.
Apart from being a player, Popović has also contributed to the game as a chess coach and author. He has authored and co-authored a number of publications for his club, Partizan, and has also served as a coach for several clubs like SKA Rostov in Moscow, Russia.
