Razvan Preotu is a Canadian chess grandmaster who is also an International Master (IM). Born on 18 September 2000, he became Canada's youngest ever International Master at the age of 13 years, 12 months, and 27 days, and the second youngest Grandmaster at the age of 15 years, 11 months, and 24 days.
Preotu has participated in various chess championships. He won the Toronto Junior Championship in 2013, the Ontario Junior Championship both in 2013 and 2014, and Grand Prix du Québec in 2014. In 2015, he won the 3rd Boston Chess Congress, the Toronto Blitz Chess Championship, and the 2015 Canadian Junior Chess Championship.
He has also achieved notable international performances. In the North American Youth Chess Championship in 2012, he won the U12 section. He has attained various norms giving him the FIDE titles of International Master (2014 Canadian Open, 2014 London Chess Classic, 2015 Reykjavik Open) and grandmaster (2015 North American Junior Chess Championship, 2016 Reykjavik Open, 2016 Chicago Open).
Razvan Preotu represented Canada in international competitions, including the 2014 World U14 Championship, the 2016 Chess Olympiad, and the 2017 World Team Chess Championship. He has also represented Canada in the World Youth Chess Championships and the Pan American Youth Chess Championships.
