Roeland Pruijssers is a Dutch chess Grandmaster who was dubbed a Grandmaster by FIDE in 2012. Born on January 16, 1989, his initial interest in chess was ignited by his father when he was seven years old. His original chess club was Schaakstad Apeldoorn, a club he still currently represents in the Meesterklasse, the highest Dutch chess league.
Pruijssers first found global recognition when he won the U16 European Chess Championship in 2004. Since then, he has accomplished numerous impressive feats including winning the Dutch Open Championship at Dieren in July 2011. His performance also qualified him for the Dutch Chess Championship in 2012 where he came in fifth. In the same year, he accomplished his final 'norm', leading to his grandmaster title shortly thereafter.
Pruijssers continues to be a formidable player. In 2016, he finished fourth in the Qatar Masters. In July 2018 and 2020, he became the Dutch Open Chess Champion. He finished the year 2020 by winning the Online World Blitz Championship.
