Nikolai Pushkov is a notable Chess Grandmaster from Russia. Born on August 1, 1934 in the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, Pushkov learned to play chess at a young age and quickly made a name for himself in the global chess community.


Pushkov was awarded the title of International Master in 1964 and was later promoted to International Grandmaster in 1976. His significant contributions to the game were recognized when he received the Order of Merit for the Fatherland in 2004. He is also a professor at the Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport, Youth and Tourism, where he teaches chess.


Despite his numerous championship wins, Pushkov is known for his respectful attitude towards competitors and sportsmanship. He had notable performances in USSR championships and represented Russia at multiple instances including European Team Chess Championships.


Beyond his accomplished chess career, Pushkov holds a doctoral degree in pedagogical sciences. He used his understanding of the game and his pedagogical knowledge to publish more than thirty academic papers and has written several educational books on chess.


Pushkov continues to remain active within the chess community, promoting the benefits of the sport to younger generations and contributing to the development of chess in Russia.
