Ziaur Rahman is a Bangladeshi chess Grandmaster (GM) who was born on 1974 May 1 in Dhaka. Ziaur is the first from Bangladesh to gain the Grandmaster title, achieving this prestigious rank in 2002. Before this, he became the youngest FIDE Master from his country in 1989, the International Master in 1993, and the first GM (Grandmaster) in 2002. Ziaur is a 16-time National Chess Champion of Bangladesh, making his first victory in 1989 and the last one in 2020.


Ziaur has played for the national team of Bangladesh in the Chess Olympiads since 1990, and his notable performance was in the 2010 Chess Olympiad, obtaining 9 points from 11 games. He won the bronze medal on the 2nd board at the 2000 Istanbul Olympiad and was awarded the Board 1 gold medal at the 2018 Batumi Olympiad. He also became the Commonwealth Chess Champion in Glasgow in 2014.
