Besides distinguishing himself as a versatile chess player, Chowdhury also contributes to the game by serving as an executive in the Bengal Chess Association.
Before his recognition as a Grandmaster, Chowdhury had further proved his competence by being the Under-16 Commonwealth Chess Champion in 2003 and also won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Chess Championship in 2016. In 2014, he achieved his first Grandmaster norm in the Czech Open and his final Grandmaster norm in the First Saturday GM Tournament in Budapest, Hungary, in 2016.
