Shreyas Royal is a British chess grandmaster, born in Bangalore on January 9, 2009, who moved to Woolwich in South East London at the age of three. At 15 years and 7 months he became the youngest British player ever to earn the Grandmaster title. His early promise was such that when his father's work visa neared expiry in 2018, a new visa was granted, allowing the family to stay in England - and Royal to keep playing.

He won the European Youth Under-8 Championship in 2017 and became England's youngest International Master in 2021. His first Grandmaster norm came at the Bavarian Open in Tegernsee in November 2022, setting a British record along the way.
