Aditya Samant is a chess grandmaster from India. He was born on July 23, 2003, and showed an early interest in chess. Trained at a young age by his father, he rapidly progressed in skill, earning several significant achievements on the national and international chess stage.
In 2018, Samant participated in the IIFLW tournament in Mumbai, where he secured an impressive victory. He subsequently played in the Aeroflot Open in Moscow and the Gibraltar Masters 2019. At the Reykjavik Open 2019, he earned his first Grandmaster Norm by tying second place.
In 2019, at just 16, Samant was participated in the FIDE Grand Swiss tournament, a significant milestone in his career. Two months later, he secured his second Grandmaster Norm at the National Championship.
The year 2020 proved significant for Samant, with triumphant performances in multiple tournaments. In January, he won the Chennai Open 2020. Just days later, he secured his third and final Grandmaster Norm to become India's 66th Grand Master.
At the Prague Challengers 2020, he showcased a particularly impressive performance wherein he drew a game against World championship candidate, David Anton Guijarro. This was viewed as a monumental achievement, considering the level of competition and his age.
