Roland Schmaltz is a German chess Grandmaster. He was born on July 15, 1974. He has won various national and international chess championships since the early 2000s and his chess style is characteristically aggressive.
Schmaltz earned his International Master title in 1996 and his Grandmaster title in 1999. One of his major wins include winning the Bavarian Championship in 2003.
Schmaltz is also known for his prowess in online computer chess, where he plays under the pseudonym "Hawkeye". He was a number one player on the Internet Chess Club for several successive years. He represented his country in the Chess Olympiad of 1998.
