Gabriel Schwartzman is a Romanian-American chess Grandmaster. Born in Romania in 1976, he later moved to the U.S and became the youngest FIDE (International Chess Federation) Grandmaster in America at the age of 20 in 1996. He was also the first to win a gold medal at the Pan American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship while being in a community college, and the first from Florida to become a Grandmaster.

Schwartzman first started playing chess at the age of five and won multiple youth national championships in Romania. He won the Romanian Junior Championship for three consecutive years (1993-1995). His first international success came in 1996 when he received the title of International Grandmaster. He later won the 2011 Florida State Chess Championship with a perfect score.

He is also an entrepreneur, launching an online sports betting company in 2003 in Costa Rica. However, facing eventual bankruptcy, the company had to be shut down in 2006. He later started a new company in 2009, which he then sold in 2013.
