Deep Sengupta is an Indian chess grandmaster known for winning the British Chess Championship in 2018. Born on 30 June 1988, Sengupta was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE, the international chess governing body, in 2010. However, his passion for chess was sparked much earlier, earning the World Youth Chess Championship for under-12 in 2000. Sengupta has also achieved success at the Commonwealth Chess Championship, bagging gold twice, once in 2015 and again in 2017. In terms of team chess tournaments, he clinched gold in 2008 at the World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad and silver at the Asian Team Chess Championship in 2009 and 2012. Notably, in the national circuit, he won the Indian National Premier Chess Championship in 2015.
