Evgeny Shaposhnikov is a Russian chess grandmaster. He was born on January 16, 1970, in Smolensk, Russia. He achieved his title of grandmaster (GM) in 1998. Shaposhnikov has played for various teams in the Russian Team Chess Championship and has also taken part in the European Club Cup with the team “Navigator” from Moscow.
In 2005, he shared first place with Krishnan Sasikiran in the Hastings International Chess Congress. Other accomplishments include securing fifth place at Moscow Aeroflot Open in 2004, and winning the Albena tournament in 2006.
Shaposhnikov also won the Politiken Cup in Helsingor, Denmark in 2008. He played in the Chess World Cup 2011 but was eliminated in the first round by David Navara.
In addition, Shaposhnikov is an International Correspondence Chess Grandmaster. He often partners with other celebrated grandmasters for training and simultaneously shares his skill set through chess books. This involves a series of opening monographs which he has been publishing since 1995.
