Aleksandr Shneider is a Ukrainian chess grandmaster. He was born on 31 May 1986 in Kiev, Ukraine. Along with playing professionally, Shneider is also known as chess coach and author.
He won the Under-18 Ukrainian Championship in 2004, and finished in second place at the Chigorin Memorial tournament in 2007. He clinched first position in the “Zalakaros Open” chess tournament in Hungary in 2010.
Shneider was part of the Ukrainian national team at the World Team Chess Championship in 2010 as well as the 2011 and 2013 European Team Chess Championship. He has also represented Uganda at the 2020 Arab Online Chess Championship, and the 2020 Online Chess Olympiad.
As a coach, he has trained several players including Indian Grandmaster Surya Shekhar Ganguly and Ugandan Woman Candidate Master Maria Nakanyike. Shneider has written several chess books including "The Complete Manual of Positional Chess: The Russian Chess School 2.0" in collaboration with Konstantin Sakaev.
