Sanan Sjugirov (birth: January 31, 1993) is a Russian chess Grandmaster and former World Youth Chess Champion in his age category. On July 1, 2007, he became a Grandmaster (GM) when he was only 14 years old. Sjugirov was born in Elista, the capital of the Republic of Kalmykia, in Russia. He learnt how to play chess at the age of 6.


Sanan Sjugirov won the EU Individual Open Chess Championship in Liverpool in 2006. In the same year, he emerged victorious in the World Youth Chess Championship in the Under 14 category. Two years later, he became the winner of the Young Stars of the World in Kirishi.


He played in the FIDE World Cup in 2007, 2009, 2011, and 2017 and in the Chess World Cup in 2019. In 2010, he grabbed the top spot in the Mikhail Chigorin Memorial in Saint Petersburg, East Jerusalem and Shaikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan tournament in United Arab Emirates (UAE).


Sanan Sjugirov played for the Russian team that clinched the silver medal in the 2008 Chess Olympiad. At the 2013 World Team Chess Championship, he was a part of the Russian national team that won the gold medal.
