Spyridon Nikolaos Skembris is a Greek chess Grandmaster who was born December 8, 1959, in Lemnos, Greece. He was awarded the International Master (IM) title in 1980 and the Grandmaster (GM) title in 1986.


Skembris has won several national and international tournaments over his career. He's been the Greek champion twice (1979 and 1980). Internationally, he won the 1981 Bagneux and the 1994 and 1998 Port Erin international tournaments.


He was also a prominent part of the Greek national team and played in numerous team events like ten Chess Olympiads, the World Team Chess Championship of 1985, and several European Team Chess Championships.


Skembris also entered the political service of FIDE (International Chess Federation) in the 1990s and has held high-ranking offices. In 2002, he became the President of the Greek Chess Federation and still holds the position. Currently, he is serving as an executive member of FIDE and holds the role of Vice President of the FIDE Trainers' Commission. He's also an International Organizer (1995) and a FIDE Trainer (2005).
