Anton Smirnov is an Australian chess grandmaster. He was born on 31 January 2001 to Russian parents who had moved to Australia. His father, Vladimir Smirnov, is also a notable chess player. Anton Smirnov began playing chess at a very young age, and by 12, he won the Under 18 category of the 2012 Australian Junior Chess Championship.


The most significant accomplishments and milestones of Smirnov's include becoming the youngest Australian International Master in 2014 at the age of 13 and achieving his first Grandmaster norm at the 2014 Sydney International Open. He won the Oceania Zonal Chess Championship in 2015, which qualified him for the Chess World Cup 2015. Subsequently, he became the second-youngest grandmaster in the world, after the Uzbek International Master Nodirbek Abdusattorov.



Anton Smirnov has been a significant force in the chess world despite his young age, particularly within the Australian chess community. He is a rising talent to watch out for.
