Since the conception of his grandmaster career, Sorokin has competed in various international competitions. He has played in the World Junior Chess Championship and the European Individual Chess Championship. The FIDE, the international organization that connects the various national chess federations worldwide, has ranked him among the top 100 players in Russia.
Before he became a grandmaster, he earned the title of International Master in 2014, and in the same year, he won the Russian U-17 championship. One important aspect of his gameplay is that he often employs the Sicilian Defence framework, a favorite among many chess players due to its aggressive and combative nature.
