Tomás Sosa is a Spanish chess grandmaster. He was born in Tenerife on September 15, 1946 and received the grandmaster title in 1976. Sosa is considered one of the greatest players in the history of Spanish chess.


Throughout his career, Sosa has achieved numerous national and international victories. He has won the Canary Islands Chess Championship multiple times and represented Spain at the Chess Olympiad twelve times. He has also won various tournaments including Tres Arroyos 1976, Sociedad Hebraica 1977, and Torremolinos 1978.


After retiring from competitive play, Sosa remained active in the chess community as a trainer for young chess players. He also served as the President of the Canary Islands Chess Federation.


Despite his great achievements and contributions to the sport, Sosa has remained a modest figure. He values his family above all else and is known for his gentle and respectful demeanor.


Sosa’s influence in the world of chess is not limited to his playing and training. He has made significant contributions to chess theory, particularly in relation to the Sicilian Defence. He has also written a number of books on chess theory and strategy.


Sosa passed away on February 7, 2000, leaving behind an impressive legacy in Spanish and international chess.
