Swapnil Dhopade is an Indian chess player who was awarded the title of Grandmaster (GM) by FIDE, the global chess organisation, in 2016. Prior to that, he earned the International Master (IM) title in 2009. He was born on 5th October 1990 in Amravati, Maharashtra, India.
In 2017, Dhopade won the bronze medal at the Asian Chess Championship. He also won the 2nd IIFL Wealth Mumbai Open tournament in the same year.
In 2019, he was one of the five-player Indian team at the World Team Chess Championship 2019 in Astana, Kazakhstan. In this championship, India secured the fourth rank.
In terms of coaching, Dhopade has trained chess players like Divya Deshmukh and Raunak Sadhwani, who both went on to become chess prodigies. He also served as the coach for the Maharashtra team in the 2016 National Games in Pune, India.
