Born on September 19, 1997, Tan moved to the UK to study Law at the University of Warwick. He earned the titles of FIDE Master in 2013, International Master in 2015, and Grandmaster in 2020.

Tan's major accomplishments include placing first in the 2013 Australian Junior Championship and becoming the Australian Open Champion in 2015 among other national and international titles.
