Jesper Søndergaard Thybo is a Danish chess player. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) in 2018.
Born in 1999 in Aarhus, Denmark, Thybo is one of the top-ranked players in his country. His initial steps in chess were at the local Aarhus Skakklub/Skolerne.
In regional and international competitions, he gained attention early on. At the age of 16, he won the Danish Championship in 2016, also becoming the youngest national champion ever in Denmark.
In 2017, he won the under-18 division of the European Youth Chess Championship.
By 2018, his prowess was evident when he drew a game against Viswanathan Anand, an Indian grandmaster and former world champion. In the same year, FIDE awarded him the grandmaster title, following a supreme performance in the Hasselbacken Open.
In February 2021, Thybo won the 22nd Rochefort Chess Festival against players from 16 countries.
