Jonathan D. Tisdall is an American-born Irish chess grandmaster and a chess columnist for The Irish Times. Born on August 26, 1958 in Buffalo, New York, he moved to Norway in 1977. He earned the Grandmaster title in 1993. Tisdall has won multiple tournaments, including the 1995 Norwegian Chess Championship. He has also represented Ireland at three different Olympiads. He is renowned for his chess manufacturing and has penned works such as "Improve Your Chess Now" and "Develop Your Pieces: Get the Most Out of Your Game". He is the mastermind behind the Jonathan Tisdall Reti, a novel chess opening. He has also coached Magnus Carlsen, the current World Chess Champion.
