Evgeny Tomashevsky is a Russian chess Grandmaster and a three-time Russian Chess Champion who was born on July 1, 1987. He was coached by Evgeny Vladimirov and his mother when he was young. He has played for Russia in multiple Chess Olympiads, winning team gold in 2009 and 2010, and individual bronze in 2010. Tomashevsky won the Russian Championship Superfinal in 2015 and the European Individual Championship in 2009.
He is best known for winning the Aeroflot Open in 2014 and becoming the victor of the Baku Grand Prix 2015, securing his spot in the Candidates Tournament for the World Championship. In 2015, he came second at the FIDE Grand Prix held in Tbilisi, Georgia.
