Pavel Vladimirovich Tregubov is a notable Russian international chess player and grandmaster. He was born on 21 December 1971 in Tuapse, Russia. Tregubov earned his International Master (IM) title in 1994 and became a Grandmaster (GM) in 1996. He is married to Ukrainian-Russian chess player Alexandra Kosteniuk, a former women's world chess champion.
Tregubov's chess career spans several regional, national, and international tournaments. His winnings include the Russian Youth Championship in 1988. He achieved a noteworthy victory in 2000 where he won the 5th European Chess Championship.
Tregubov is an eight-time qualifier of the Chess World Cup in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2013, and 2019. He reached the semifinals in the 2000 Chess World Cup in Shenyang, China. He also participated in the FIDE World Championship in 1999.
At the team level, Tregubov has represented Russia in several chess Olympiads, bagging the team gold for Russia in 2000 and 2002. He also played for the Russian team at the World Team Chess Championship in 2001 and 2005, where the team won the championship.
