Tair Shakirovich Vakhidov, born on August 27, 1952, is an International Correspondence Chess Grandmaster (ICCGM). He hails from Uzbekistan. He was awarded the International Master (IM) title in 1982 and the Grandmaster (GM) title in 1989.


Vakhidov's chess stats are notable. He placed 2nd in USSR Armed Forces Championships in 1978 and 1981 and won in 1982. He placed 3rd in the 1999 Email Olympiads representing the team CCCP64. Furthermore, he was ranked 1st in the ICCF World Cup 14 preliminaries with a score of 13.5/16, and 4th in the semi-finals.


Vakhidov's achievements also extend to his contributions to Islamic culture. In 1997, he published "The Cultural History of Uzbekistan" and was honored by the government of Uzbekistan for his work in 2003. He was a key participant in the project to create the "Concise Islamic Encyclopedic Dictionary", which was a major undertaking and he helped to write several other Islamic works.


He is not only a great chess player, but also a mechanical engineer and an elected member of the World Academy of Sciences and Technology.


The main focus of his chess style is positional maneuvering, with an emphasis on an understanding of pawn structures and strategic planning. Today, he continues to be active in both correspondence chess and over-the-board play.
