Erik van den Doel is a Dutch chess Grandmaster. He was born on May 15, 1979, in Leiden, Netherlands. He earned his International Master title in 1997 and became a Grandmaster in 1998.
Van den Doel has won the Dutch Chess Championship twice, in 1995 and in 2001. He also won the Universiade team gold chess championship in 1998 while representing the Netherlands.
He has competed several times in the Chess Olympiad, representing his country. His first participation was in 1998, and he also took part in the 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2008 competitions.
In addition to his playing career, van den Doel has worked as a coach, including serving as the head trainer of the Royal Dutch Chess Federation from 2006 to 2010. He has also authored a chess book, "The Strategic Nimzo-Indian," published in 2012.
